Painter, printer and teacher. Served in the Army and was held prisioner of war. Whilst imprisoned in Bavaria he met painter Adrian Heath who encouraged Frost to paint in oil. Studied after the war at Birmingham College of Art, then at St Ives School of Painting and at Camberwell School of Art in the late 1940s. Frost taught at several art schools, which included periods at Reading and Newcastle Universities. 1949 Frost started to paint abstract and returned shortly after to St Ives where he worked as assistant to Barbara Hepworth. Exhibited widely internationally and in England at Redfern Gallery, New Art Centre, Austin/Desmond Fine Art and the Belgrave Gallery. Retrospective held at RA, 2000. Tate St Ives and Belgrave Gallery both gave Frost shows in 2003. The latter showing works on paper from the artist's studio in 2004 and 50 years of prints in 2006. Elected RA in 1992 and knighted in 1998. Tate Gallery holds his work.
