Biography

Bernard Meadows born 1915 in Norwich. Studied at the Norwich School of Art, 1934-36. Studied painting and sculpture at the RCA,1938. Assistant to Henry Moore during the summers of 1936-39 and 1946-48. Served in RAF, 1941-46, and then returned to continue his studies at the RCA in 1946 through to 1948. Won an Italian state scholarship in 1956. First one-man show at Gimpel Fils, 1957. From 1948-60, Meadows taught at the Chelsea School of Art, then moved to become Professor of Sculpture at the RCA, 1960-80. Appointed Professor Emeritus, 1980. During the years 1983-88, he became director of the Henry Moore Foundation, serving as a consultant to the foundation in 1989. Exhibited internationally and represented in the collections of the Tate Gallery, The Arts Council,MOMA, New York, amongst others.
