Studied Slade 1929-31 and 1935-6, also under Bissiere at the Academie Ranson, Paris. Turned to abstract art around 1950. He taught at Central Sch of Art and Design, 1954-6, and it was at this time he started visting Cornwall. Firstly he stayed with the artist Patrick Heron and then for summer use, he rented a studio at Newlyn. Moved to Cornwall 1965 and became part of the St Ives Group.
